Overview
The Director, Data Strategy, Information Management & Governance reports to the Vice President, Strategic Planning, Engagement & Analytics and is responsible for developing and executing the enterprise-wide strategy for data governance, information management, and AI-driven data practices. This role ensures that data is treated as a strategic asset, enabling trusted insights, regulatory compliance, and ethical AI adoption across the organization.
The Director provides enterprise leadership on data governance, information lifecycle management, and data-enabled innovation. The Director will lead a team of data analysts and collaborate with technology, and business leaders across the organization to establish data frameworks, policies, and standards for data governance and responsible AI usage.
Description of Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive enterprise data strategy aligned with organizational priorities, regulatory expectations, and the evolving needs of members and stakeholders
- Define and implement the roadmap for the enterprise data and information management aligned with business strategy and objectives
- Champion a culture of data stewardship and literacy across the organization
- Serve as a trusted advisor on data governance and AI ethics to senior leadership
Data Governance & Information Management:
- Establish and maintain data governance frameworks, policies, and standards for data quality, metadata, master data, and lifecycle management
- Oversee data classification, retention, and compliance with applicable CBA policies
- Drive adoption of data cataloging and lineage tools to ensure transparency and traceability
AI Data Governance:
- Develop and enforce policies for responsible AI data usage, such as fairness, bias mitigation, and explainability
- Implement monitoring processes for AI-driven decisions to maintain accountability and compliance
- Collaborate with the Information Technology team to define standards for data preparation, labeling, and information generation
Collaboration & Enablement:
- Partner with IT, Strategy, Analytics, and other stakeholders to align data governance with technology platforms, processes and business needs
- Provide guidance on data architecture and integration strategies to support advanced analytics and AI initiatives
Performance & Reporting:
- Define KPIs for data governance maturity and AI compliance and develop dashboards to measure progress in data governance, data quality, and AI compliance
- Report progress to executive leadership and regulatory bodies as required
Key Qualifications, Abilities and Skills
- Post-secondary education in Data Management, Information Management, Business Analytics or related field
- Minimum 10 years of work experience in data governance, information management, or related roles, with at least 5 years in a leadership capacity
- Strong knowledge of AI, data governance, and ethical AI practices, and the ability to apply these concepts in real organizational environments
- Proven track record of leading cross-functional teams and driving organization-wide change across major initiatives
- Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels
- Experience with data governance and AI governance tools, such as Microsoft Purview or similar platforms
- Working knowledge of emerging AI technologies and how they integrate into business workflows (strongly preferred)
